From inside the system, not as a theorist looking in.
Richard Barr founded Liberty Mundo in 2018 after more than two decades in international finance, public markets, and offshore structuring. He has led large organisations and held senior roles at companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. The work taught him three things he has not stopped writing about: regulators move slower than risk does, governments treat private wealth as a target by default, and one passport plus one tax residence plus one bank is the most fragile financial architecture a successful person can adopt.
Liberty Mundo was the answer. A firm built to design and execute the full picture for clients who had outgrown the assumption that staying put was safe. Six disciplines on every brief: second citizenships, tax-friendly residencies, bulletproof asset protection, judgement-proof strategy, offshore banking, and a personal backup plan that ties the rest of it together.
Richard splits his time between Liberty Mundo’s offices in Dublin, Lisbon, and Zurich, and has been a long-time resident of Monaco. He has lived and worked in 10+ countries on multiple continents, dealt directly with immigration officials, central bankers, trust officers, private bankers, and litigation counsel in jurisdictions most advisors only read about. The result is advice that survives contact with reality.
Areas of focus
The disciplines Richard has spent the past two decades doing in practice, not just writing about.
Second citizenship and residency
Citizenship by descent, naturalization, and investment. Tax-residency planning across EU, Caribbean, Latin American, and Asian programs. Particular depth in Portuguese, Irish, and Swiss-adjacent routes.
Asset protection architecture
Multi-layer trust and foundation structures, jurisdictional sequencing, and judgement-proof ownership design for high-value estates. Co-author of Bulletproof Asset Protection.
Extradition and personal backup planning
Civil and criminal extradition exposure, jurisdictional risk mapping, and the contingency stack a high-profile life now requires. Author of The Extradition Report.
Offshore banking and CRS strategy
Account-opening realities in Switzerland, the Caribbean, Asia, and the United States. Non-CRS and CRS-resilient structures for clients who need real banking, not online wallets.
Public-markets and corporate finance
Senior leadership at London-listed public companies and large international organisations. Brings public-markets discipline to private-client structuring.
Editorial and analysis
Author of three books and weekly long-form analysis on libertymundo.com and the Liberty Mundo Substack. The work is sourced, dated, and rewritten when the law changes.
Three books on the topics that matter most.
The Extradition Report · Author. The practical guide to extradition exposure, mutual legal assistance treaties, Interpol notice abuse, and what high-net-worth individuals can actually do about it before a problem starts.
Second Passport Blueprint · Co-author. A working manual for citizenship by descent, naturalization, and investment, with the trade-offs each route forces and the order of operations that makes a second passport useful, not decorative.
Bulletproof Asset Protection · Co-author. The structure-by-structure breakdown of trusts, foundations, LLCs, and judgement-proof ownership patterns that hold up when litigation arrives.
